A GFCI outlet protects you from every electrical hazard.

The answer is MYTH.

A GFCI is designed to protect people from ground-fault electric shock by quickly interrupting power when it detects an imbalance in current. It’s especially important in places where electricity and water may come into contact.

But it doesn’t protect against every electrical hazard, such as:

* Overloaded circuits
* Every type of short circuit
* Damaged wiring
* Electrical fires
