Embrace the moody side of design with us this Halloween weekend 🖤

Sequel loves a palette with depth and character. Deep greens, rich burgundies, and earthy charcoals bring a sense of warmth and sophistication to our recent projects. A little drama is always in good taste!

A little look at the design process behind this historic home renovation.

There’s something special about working with a home that already has so much character. Here, we leaned into its cottage-inspired charm with warm natural wood, tailored finishes, and a mix of timeless details that feel right at home.

The goal wasn’t to make the home feel new, it was to make it work better for the family living there. An addition created the opportunity to rethink the existing spaces, with intentional updates to the kitchen, a new bedroom and hall baths, and thoughtful improvements to everyday spaces.

A look behind the scenes at the Amherst Residence

Before the finishes and before the final layers of detail, there’s the white box.

Our 3D massing studies help us shape the structure of a space first—testing form, function, flow, and the relationship between new and existing architecture. It’s where ideas start to take shape, allowing both our team and our clients to see the possibilities, refine the details, and make thoughtful decisions before materials enter the conversation.

Interior design isn’t just about the finished space, it’s about the thought, intention, and decisions that shape it along the way.

The Rook Room Game Lounge & Cafe is a great place to host a gathering!

A few months ago, Sequel held our six-year anniversary celebration at the Rook Room. From the earliest planning conversations, to the delicious food and drink at the event, to the last guest departing, every detail was perfect.

We are proud to have played a little part in creating this one of a kind venue!

A first look at our Owl’s Head Estate Project ✨

Rumor has it that the district’s name may have ties to this very property, but we’ll let you decide. Can you spot the owls hidden within the original interior woodwork? 🦉

Rooted in a deep respect for the craftsmanship and character of the original home, the renovation thoughtfully balances preservation with the demands of modern living. Original architectural details are layered with refined contemporary interventions, creating a moody, sophisticated aesthetic.

The result is a residence that honors its history while embracing an elevated, intentional way of living.

A first look at our Wesley Penthouse Remodel

Construction progress is being made and alongside it comes an important window for a site visit. As framing begins to define the new spaces, our team conducts a framing walk during construction administration to ensure the design intent is being carried through.

Before drywall is installed, we verify that electrical and plumbing locations align with our plans, allowing us to identify and address any discrepancies early in the process.

Thoughtful coordination at every stage helps ensure the finished space reflects the original vision.

Introducing the Amherst Residence

Through a precedent study, we establish a curated vision and design direction for each project. This mood board captures the project’s intent - a home that feels warm, grounded, and full of character. Warm woods, earth tones, and natural textures create a refined blend of organic modern and mid-century influences, setting the foundation for a cohesive and thoughtfully layered material palette.

A space made for lingering

Rich textures, vintage-inspired lighting, a little green, and plenty of personality come together in a space that feels collected. From the fluted millwork to the custom tile flooring, and unexpected pieces above the bar, every detail invites you to look a little closer.

Thoughtful, playful, and made for a good time.

A glimpse inside one of the oldest homes in the Cottage Grove neighborhood.

Filled with historic charm, intentional updates, and unexpected stories woven into every detail.

Built in 1888, this home once served as a veterinary practice and its old barn was an early site for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

Our dog-shaped door knocker serves as a whimsical nod to this past, reminding us that renovations don’t erase a home’s history—they simply give it a new chapter.
