Grace Blu Interior Design

Grace Blu Interior Design Featured in Arch Digest, Better Homes and Gardens, Kids Spaces Magazine. The Grace Blu mindset and mantra is "designing outside the box."

Grace Blu Interior Design is a boutique interior design firm that designs outside the box and creates unique and bold spaces for residential and commercial projects. When Rona Graf launched Grace Blu in 2007, she made the intentional decision not to use her own name. From the beginning, her vision for her design studio was a “collaborative of creatives” that would combine their skills and experien

ces to create one-of-a-kind spaces. Grace Blu’s most recent collaboration with fellow principal designer Megan Yang reinforces the construction forward design studio’s commitment to innovative solutions and diverse perspectives. The meaning is two-fold, as seen in their convention challenging designs and client-centric approach. Rona and team forgo genre and rigid process, instead editing their approach and style to create a fresh and inimitable space every single time. Grace Blu has received the attention of many regional and national publications like HGTV Magazine, Arch Digest, Better Homes & Gardens, CA Home & Design, RUE Magazine, Modern Luxury, Orange County Register, and Coast Magazine. Most recently, Grace Blu was honored with the title of HGTV Designer of the Year 2020.

You're spending $3 million on a build… and you're trying to save money on the designer?

I get it. The numbers are big, and every place you can trim feels like a win. But here's what actually happens: you hire a cheaper architect, an okay builder, a designer who's "good enough", and the whole thing costs you more in the long run.

The home doesn't come out the way you imagined. Things take longer. And now you're fixing mistakes that could have been avoided from the start.
The best homes aren't built with the best materials. They're built by the best teams.

Don't cheap out on your team. 🏠

Fun fact: I didn't name this company after myself.

I started Grace Blu when I was pregnant. My favorite name was Grace… and I had a boy. So here we are. Grace Blu, it is. 😂

But the name was always symbolic of something bigger. From day one, my vision was never to build a one-woman show. It was to build a team. A real one. The kind that doesn't need me in the room to run beautifully.

I got a glimpse into what that could look like early in my career. In my first year in design, I worked for a model home firm with 140 employees. The principal had just retired. She moved to Oregon, sold the company to her five principals, and was sitting back watching something she'd built for 30 years continue to thrive without her.

And something just clicked for me.

If I'm going to pour 30 years of my heart and soul into something… I want something to be there at the end. For me. For my family. A legacy. Something that lives beyond any one person, including me.

So yeah. My team is everything. Always has been. 💛

Collaboration isn't a strategy for us. It's just how we operate.

Some of our best relationships came from simply showing up and giving, helping a trade partner design their showroom, delegating my team, pouring into something with zero expectation. And every single time, those relationships come back around in the most unexpected ways.

Oh, and the podcast? I did NOT wake up one day and decide to do that. 😂 But here we are, 15 episodes in with 20 more in the works. They say if you get past month four, you're in it to win it. We're in it!!!

And if you've been around here a while, you might know I started as a teacher. What they don't tell you is that teaching is one of the hardest jobs on this planet: mentally, physically, emotionally. I was 22 and completely exhausted. You go home, and you're still thinking about your kids at midnight.

To every teacher out there, thank you. Genuinely. 💛

The creativity, the patience, the people skills, everything I learned in that classroom built the foundation for everything we do at Grace Blu.

She knew from day one she didn't want to just post property tours.

Boring. 😂

Tina Tan made a decision early: show who you are, not just what you sell. And that decision changed everything.

50% of her business last year came directly from Instagram. Not from a massive following. Not from viral moments. From genuine connection and showing up as herself.

Her brokerage thinks it's insane. Her clients from Seattle, South Korea, Taiwan, and the Bay Area think it's exactly why they called her.

This is what happens when you stop performing and start connecting. 🏡

She trusted a referral. And that agent wasn't there for a single moment that mattered, not even closing day.

That experience didn't just frustrate Tina. It inspired her. Because if that's what the industry looked like, she knew she could do it better. And she was right.

Sometimes the best origin stories start with someone else doing the job badly. 🏡

This may be one of my all time favorite shots, and moments that we have designed. It’s the entry to both the primary bedroom and bath. It’s the juxtaposition between expansion and contraction. It’s light vs dark.

There are so many details that go into everything we create that you feel it you don’t just see it with your eyes.

Huge thanks to the many many amazingly talented people who made this space work and helped it all come together… first, the one and only Rob Sinclair the architect behind this home, the builder who made it happen, and to the many trades and partners just in this small space to create such drama.

The insanely gorgeous wood inlayed flooring- , we love them and used the for the entire home. for the most beautiful black “Steel” doors, yes that’s actual metal paint to make our wooden doors appear and actually be metal. Thank you to for the amazing doors and millwork throughout the home. Oh let’s look up ⬆️ now - the wallpaper is a deep saturated navy blue handmade paper by . So good. The light fixture you ask, yes, .

Antique console table by and artwork was provided by our clients own collection.

Let me know if there is anything else I missed and you want to know!
