DVDCreative ... Designing landscapes that create community ... David Volz Design (DVD) is committed to the creative design of outstanding public spaces.

We develop streetscapes and all types of public landscapes to meet the specific needs of our client’s communities. For all of our commissions, the DVD team works to enhance the project program, we work within environmentally sound parameters while taking full advantage of the site and its surroundings to best service the community’s needs. Ever mindful of our role as stewards of the land, DVD’s de

sign philosophy includes careful consideration for realistic maintenance requirements and construction cost parameters. Our company understands the importance of protecting the environment, protecting our resources and the health of future generations. DVD is proud to be a LEED Accredited and a Qualified Stormwater Designer QSD company. We understand the commitment we have to the public to deliver quality projects that offer a high return for the public funds invested; projects that can be maintained and deliver a lifetime of service to the communities they are built for. Our philosophy also embraces any opportunity to interact with the public to create environments that meet their needs. DVD’s proven outreach approach has often been the catalyst for our most successful projects. Our proven approach and the input we receive from our clients and their communities provide the inspiration that leads to our most creative and innovative solutions. Streetscapes and greenspaces designed by our firm have received awards and accolades from community groups, civic organizations, the American Public Works Association, the California Parks and Recreation Society and the National Recreation and Park’s Society. In fact, this year one of our street enhancement projects, Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach, won the APWA Project of the Year Award.

Tustin Branch Trail is a scenic half-mile of the regional trail system, transforming a historic railroad line once vital to the citrus industry. Connecting East 17th Street and Warren Avenue, it features railroad-themed signage and design elements that celebrate its heritage. Lined with California-friendly, drought-tolerant plants, the trail’s hard-packed clay surface offers a comfortable experience for all users. Nestled along a riparian corridor and bio-swales, it also promotes sustainable water management.

Heritage Park had its grand opening in 2002, enhancing its 1700s Boston-inspired theme with new interactive features. Updates included a reconstructed lake, water cannons, a waterfall and waterwheel, and a sunken ship play element. Interpretive trails with excerpts from Paul Revere’s Ride created an immersive blend of play and storytelling, while the refreshed Village Square—anchored by the iconic North Church steeple—added engaging, accessible experiences. With upgraded amenities and improved accessibility, Heritage Island offers a dynamic destination for play, learning, and exploration.
