How do you mend a broken heart…..the only thing I can come up with is time but it just feels so trite…or cliche. It is moving at a snails pace….like when you are a child waiting for Christmas. 2 weeks ago overnight Cami lost use of her back legs….not just a little bit but totally….It was a rough week but I pushed through….as she had given me over 13 years of joy and dedication. I took her to the vet where I heard a lot of different outcomes but none of them made me feel hopeful. To make a very long journey short by Friday night I felt she was in some pain and it continued through the morning when I decided to do what was right for her but not necessarily what was easy for me.
The life of a dog is wrapped up with so many of life’s moments. She was my bright light when my husband left….as coming home to her everyday gave me a deep sense of purpose and responsibility…I could not fall apart because she depended on me. When my sister died 3 years later I clung to her for comfort and love. These sweet souls don’t ask much from us yet they improve our life in ways that can’t be measured.
She was my 5th Old English (4th rescue) …a breed I fell in love with and I can hardly imaging not having one in my life …..yet I find myself thinking that at my age [74] can I have a larger dog again? A decision I don’t have to make right now as I am still in the middle of the unbearable grief.
RIP my precious girl…..thanks for giving me all of your love…… 10/17/26
