Weā€™re thrilled to share that The Warren Residences has been named a finalist in the 2026 The Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Awards, in the Residential Architecture: Multiresidential category.

The project responds to the challenge of creating six individual luxury homes on a steep, constrained Wānaka site, while preserving privacy, outlook and a sense of connection to the landscape.

The result reflects the thinking, collaboration and problem solving of a wider project team, and this recognition is something we are pleased to share with everyone involved.

Note to self.... Itā€™s dangerous to play with architects!

The team at Bespoke Architecture stepped away from their screens and sketchpads, trading them for bowling balls and laser guns.

Turns out, the talented people behind the projects have steady hands and laser focus with plenty of strikes and precise aim contributing to a very competitive score count.

Architecture is inherently collaborative. The way we communicate, rely on one another, and support each other as a team shapes not only how we work internally, but also the experience we create for our clients.

Design Challenges
Episode 01 - The Bespoke Solution

The most important design decision on this project happened before the site was even purchased.

This Lake Taupo site came with a number of challenges including a steep slope, south-facing views, overhead power lines and a tight budget.

Before committing to the purchase, the client invested in a geotechnical investigation. That early insight allowed them to better understand the siteā€™s constraints, negotiate a lower purchase price and redirect those savings into the build itself.

From there, our role was to carefully position the home to maximise views, capture natural sunlight and reduce unnecessary earthworks.

Good architecture isnā€™t about creating beautiful homes.

Itā€™s about solving problems before they become expensive ones.

Every site presents unique challenges. The solution should be just as unique.

This home was designed with the clients lifestyle front and centre.

Our client wanted a home that felt easy to live in day to day, while still offering plenty of space for the grandkids when they come to stay.

So the design focused on flexibility.

Comfortable, functional spaces for everyday living, with the ability to open up when the house fills with family.

Itā€™s a collaboration between Stoke Homes and Bespoke Architecture, thoughtfully designed around the way the clients actually live.

This home is proof that a new build can still be full of character and charm.

We're really looking forward to seeing these homes being built this year!
