Before freezing temperatures arrive, there's one important plumbing task you shouldn't forget: turning off the water supply to your outdoor faucets!
â €
Water left in outdoor plumbing can freeze and expand, potentially causing pipes to crack or burst.
â €
A few simple steps can help protect your home:
• Disconnect and drain garden hoses
• Turn off the indoor shutoff valve for outdoor faucets, if your home has one
• Open the outdoor faucet to drain remaining water
• If your indoor shutoff has a small drain valve (bleeder valve), carefully open it to release trapped water, then close it
• Follow the winterizing instructions for your specific faucet
â €
Taking a few minutes now can help prevent costly plumbing problems when temperatures drop.

Could you shut off your home's water in 30 seconds?

Every homeowner should know where the main water shutoff is located and how to use it. In a leak emergency, turning off the water quickly can reduce damage while help is on the way.

To find it, look in your basement, crawl space, or utility room where the main water pipe enters your home. It is often near the water meter, along a wall facing the street. If you live in a condo or apartment, ask your building manager where your unit's shutoff is located.

Find it today, make sure it is easy to reach, and show everyone in the household where it is.

🍂 Fall Reminder!
â €
If your home has a whole-home humidifier, now that heating season is here, it’s time to check its settings!
â €
As temperatures drop and your heating system starts running more often, indoor air can become drier. Your whole-home humidifier helps add moisture to the air to keep your home comfortable.
â €
A few things to check:
• Switch the bypass damper to WINTER, if your system has one
• Adjust the humidity setting for colder weather, lowering it if condensation appears on windows
• Check the humidifier pad and water supply, if applicable
â €
Not sure how your humidifier should be set? Check your owner's manual for guidance specific to your system.
â €
If you're experiencing issues with your HVAC system or indoor humidity, our team is here to help.

Noticed a dusty burning smell when turning on your furnace for the first time this season?
â €
This is actually quite common!
â €
During the warmer months, dust can settle on your furnace's heating components. When you turn the heat back on, that dust warms up and can create a temporary burning smell.
â €
The good news? This mild, dusty smell usually fades as your furnace runs.
â €
If the smell is strong, unusual, or doesn't go away, turn off your furnace and have a professional take a look.
â €
Have questions about your furnace or need a heating tune-up? Our team at The Comfort Group is here to help!

Did you know your heating system can still heat your home even when it's not running as efficiently as it should?
â €
A dirty filter, restricted airflow, or worn components can make your heating system work harder than necessary, sometimes without obvious warning signs.
â €
A professional heating tune-up can help catch small issues early, improve efficiency, and reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns.

Keep your home comfortable this heating season. Book your heating maintenance today!
