She was trusted with the keys to nuclear weapons.

But she wasn’t trusted to change out an HVAC unit.

Read that again.

A woman could be entrusted with one of the most consequential responsibilities imaginable — yet when it came to doing work traditionally considered “men’s work,” suddenly her capability was questioned.

I heard that story years ago, and I never forgot it.

Years later, when my business partner and I began talking about creating Women in Construction – Western Colorado, stories like this were part of the reason why.

We wanted to create the room we wished existed — a place where women in construction could find each other, build relationships, share experiences, open doors for one another, and know they weren’t navigating this industry alone.

Because women have always been capable.

Sometimes, we just needed someone willing to hand us the keys.

Our next Women in Construction – Western Colorado mixer is coming soon.

And we can’t wait to get some incredible women in the same room again. 🛠️

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and leadership of women everywhere — especially the incredible women helping shape the future of construction. 🔧👷‍♀️

In an industry that hasn’t always made room for us, women continue to show up, speak up, and take the seats at the tables we deserve. Spaces like this — where women in construction gather, share experiences, support one another, and grow together — are powerful reminders that we are building more than projects… we’re building opportunity, confidence, and community.

To every woman working in construction: your voice matters, your skills matter, and your presence at the table matters. Never question the seat you’ve earned. 💪
