They make WiFi water alarm that will notify you when water is on the floor and has made it above the sump pump threshold. Here is a good recommendation for a good alarm that can be found on Amazon or online.

Quick 3-Step Sump Pump Check:

1. Inspect the pit: Remove the cover and clear out any debris or dirt.

2. Test with water: Pour a bucket of water slowly into the pit. The float switch should rise and activate the pump automatically.

3. Check the discharge pipe: Step outside to ensure water is flowing freely away from your foundation without blockages or leaks.

The metal piece inside is called an anode rod. Its entire job is to rust so your tank doesn’t have to! You can see what a brand-new one looks like compared to this one, which came out of a 10-year-old system.

To maximize your water heater's lifespan, these rods should be replaced every 1 to 3 years, and the sediment at the bottom should be flushed at least once a year.
