I first discovered Shish*to peppers a year or so ago when ordering an appetizer at The Venue restaurant one evening. Found plants for sale this spring so bought a couple to plant in our shop veggie garden. Had no idea they would produce this many, constantly!!

They're super easy to cook. Toss them in oilve oil, with a little seas salt or other desired seasoning, then blister them on the stove top. Super mild flavor, except they say about 1 out of 10 might have a little kick to it.

If they keep producing this many, we may be handing out bags of Shish*to's as thank you gifts during our open house in September! 😂 🌿 🌶

Echinacea 'Kismet Intense Orange' is in full bloom in our nursery right now and totally living up to it's "intense" name!

Blooming between summer and early fall, this powerhouse Coneflower provides an incredible punch of color in the summer garden! Give it full sun and it will reward you with tons of bright pumpkin-orange blooms!
Intense Orange grows 18 inches tall x 24 inches wide.

🌿BEFORE --> AFTER🌿
Our install crew has been working on projects all summer. Check out this landscape renovation they did for a commercial property along Normal Blvd. recently.

We removed all of the old plants and rock, put down new compost / topsoil across the entire area to give the plants a healthy base to grow in. Added all new plants, some boulders, and a small flagstone walkway outside one of the doors.

Then most of the area was covered with fresh mulch, along with a small section of rock to tie in with the existing bed around the far corner of the building which we redid a couple years ago.

The plant selection will provide a rotating palette of seasonal color, and the whole project makes the property look so much better and up to date.

If you have followed us for very long you've probably seen me mention how many stray cats live in the area around our shop. Most are very feral and not friendly at all. Occasionally we have a nice one visit, like the grey boy who I ended up taking home a couple years ago (Mezkal). 🩶🐾

Over the past year, we've had another friendly guy show up who has made a regular routine of visiting us nearly every day (NO, he's not going home with me, I have my hands full with Mezkal and don't need another one).

In talking to a neighbor near the shop, we learned this guy is called "Toons". The neighbor feeds him and looks after him so we know he's cared for. He is a TNR cat with an obvious ear clip to prove it.

Toons has gotten so comfortable around us that he walks right into the shop like he owns the place, and comes into the office to visit Kat and I, or hangs out with JeriLee outside in the nursery. He discovered the aquarium screensaver on the office tv and thinks that's pretty cool so stops to watch every now and then. One day he even showed up early to participate in our crews morning meeting before they headed out to their jobs for the day.

We give Toons water and scratches everytime he visits, and he talks a lot. I mean, a LOT! He even talks while he's drinking water from his bowl. The pictures showing his teeth are actually him in mid-meow, not hissing or anything scary. He just has a lot to say!

Recently Toons discovered the bathroom and thinks it's cool to sit on the counter top, or lounge out in the shop on the crew meeting tables. I have told him multiple times that he can't be in the shop but he doesn't listen.

So, while Toons will not be going home with any of us, I had to share his story and antics as he does brighten our days with his visits.

So shout out to Toons for making bringing some light to our days and hopefully catching mice around the shop. He's a little rough looking, but a very sweet boy. 🐈‍⬛ 🖤

The bees 🐝 are buzzing all over our shop landscape beds in huge quantities! Here are some of the beautiful plants that they are enjoying right now. Which ones are your favorite? Can't beat all of this incredible color, it'sa tough place to come to work to every morning (not)!
