We enjoyed having Mason Hayes from the University of Evansville Civil Engineering program to work with us as an intern this summer!! Thank you for your time and work with Meuth Concrete!

Here are his responses to some reflection questions he was asked to answer:

What is something you learned that you didn’t expect to learn?
“It was a surprise to learn how to drive a loader. I did not know that one day I would learn to operate one, but it was a really nice skill to learn.”

What’s one thing you’ll definitely remember from this internship?
“The main thing that I will remember from this internship are the connections I built along the way. Everyone I met and worked with were really helpful and fun to interact with.”

What does a typical day look like to you?
“A typical day on the job started with an early morning test or tests. Occasionally driving from one plant to another to work on those tests. After or in between tests, I’d break cylinders that were scheduled to be broken on that day. After breaking cylinders, I’d work completing and filing paperwork. And on occasion, I would run aggregate samples.”

What new skills have you developed?
“I have learned plenty of skills in testing concrete. Testing for air content, slump, and making cylinders to be broken. I also learned to perform sieve analysis and how to decant aggregates. I even learned how to operate a loader to use on rolling an aggregate sample to be collected.”
