Usually this time of year I am switching gears to canning πŸ…β€™s, salsa, & sauce, this year I am trying something new and switching gears to fermenting all the things and planting a solid fall garden πŸͺ

These are fermented bell & snack peppers πŸ«‘ stay tuned to see how they turn out πŸ€—

Also raise your hand πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ if you would be interested in a lactofermented garden veggie class on the farm 🩡🀎

πŸ€“ Just some agronomists and future agronomists in their natural habitat. What can we say? We love learning!

🌽 The last couple days have been spent harvesting and evaluating our biological sweetcorn trial. Stay tuned for some cool stats & findings.

🀩 But what we did learn, was that we can grow marketable sweetcorn without the use of synthetic fertilizer or insecticide & that we are pretty darn excited about

so excited that if you are still reading …

We should have some sweetcorn at the Grimes Farmers Market that was grown using a biological approach πŸ₯³ that means no synthetic fertilizer or insecticide.

Just doing a little happy dance over here πŸ’ƒ πŸ•Ί

This cantaloupe was picked from our trial area and was raised with all our soil health ideals 😍

….& it smells divine ☺️ if you know, you know

No chemical- not even a w**d killer πŸ§ͺ
No synthetic fertilizer πŸ’₯
No tillage 🀯
No plastic mulch 😳
No irrigation πŸ’¦

We have been experimenting since 2020 with different growing practices. This is the first year we have had biologically diverse compost, diverse enough to live up to Dr Elaine’s standards through the Soil Food Web School. Biologically diverse compost plus Advancing EcoAgricultures organic foliar nutrition products plus πŸ¦ƒ turkeys & πŸ“ chickens grazing here last fall plus lots of wood chips have produced one heck of a melon patch 😁

Thank you all for your tremendous support at the Grimes Farmers Market πŸ€— it is so fun chatting with you all 🩡🀎

Did you know we rotationally β€œgraze” our egg laying hens? They get fresh pasture every couple of weeks, plenty of forage 🌱 , plenty of πŸ› , plenty of sunshine β˜€οΈ , plenty of fresh air πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ, plus protection from predators, 🏑 a safe place to roost at night and lay their delicious & nutritious eggs πŸ₯š
