4 Reasons to Replace Your FPE or Stab-Lok Panel

1. The breakers fail to trip in the event of a dangerous condition due to overload or short circuit. In fact, when tested these breakers fail up to 60% of the time as compared to modern breakers which fail less than 1%.

2. The breakers can overheat and catch fire. Because of their proven high defect rate, the FPE breakers do not provide the circuit protection required by applicable codes. In addition, there are design flaws in the panel itself that can create high temperatures that can lead to fire.

3. The breakers are a serious shock hazard. Switching the breaker to the "off" position often still leaved the breaker "on" internally, risking a serious or fatal electrical shock.

4. The breakers are fradulently labeled with the Underwriters Laboratory (UL). In a class action lawsuit the court ruled that over many years FPE had violated the Consumer Fraud Act. Specially, the court found that "...FPE knowingly and purposefully distributed circuit breakers which were not tested to meet UL standards."
