Last week I spent almost 2 hours discussing one tree.

Not because we couldn’t choose one.

Three years on, this coastal garden overlooking the breathtaking Kaipara Harbour, north of Auckland, has truly come into its own.

Designed to withstand the challenging coastal conditions of wind, salt and intense sun, the carefully selected palette of hardy, resilient plants has matured beautifully, creating a landscape that feels both natural and refined.

The planting complements the clean architectural lines of the home while softening its edges, allowing the garden and the spectacular harbour setting to work together in harmony. It’s incredibly rewarding to revisit a project years later and see the vision fully realised—proof that thoughtful design and the right plants only get better with time.
