Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is an approach to new development that aims to leave nature in a measurably better state than it was found.

Here at Tangent Space we work with ecologists early on to help identify and understand the habits already on site. This helps the design and landscape proposals respond to the site, while informing the biodiversity metric.

Transforming a traditional barn into a high-performance, low-energy home

This project demonstrates how thoughtful retrofit and sustainable design can work hand in hand. By repurposing original timber, incorporating rainwater harvesting, and installing an air source heat pump, we were able to significantly reduce the building’s environmental impact while enhancing comfort and performance.

A great example of how existing buildings can be adapted for a more sustainable future.

We were recently approached to develop initial plans for a multi-use Sussex country estate. The scope: 5 luxury glamping pods alongside a wedding venue, with further accommodation planned for future phases.

Design on a site like this goes beyond aesthetics. From navigating UK planning policy -balancing whether units fall under caravan legislation or permanent operational development -to ensuring compliance with British Standards (like BS 3632 for year-round thermal comfort) and drainage regulations, masterplanning for commercial hospitality requires a careful mix of technical precision and seamless landscape integration.
