A nice lake job for a dry January, then a wet February to fill it up.

A spring fed 1 ½ acre lake between 4-15 ft deep was built predominantly for fishing with plenty of shape and gravel bars to make it interesting. Built to fit the landscape and creating a dam across a valley making the lake look as natural as possible. We laid a diversion pipe to allow the spring to flow around the lake for construction with a system to allow the lake to be filled/topped up at anytime. An ideal spot for it. Also a new ditch along the boundary to carry water run off from a road away.

Ready for us to seed in the spring but always handy when you don't have to rely on rainfall to fill it up.

After 4 months, 2 men, 5 machines, 18,000 tonnes of shingle, 16,000 tonnes of sand, 7,000 tonnes of rootzone and 7,000 cubic meters of topsoil we've now finished our works at the new training ground for Reading FC. On behalf of MJ Abbotts who did all the drainage, irrigation, prep work and seeding.
Once the grass is all established Reading FC and the academy will have 10 pitches plus training areas to play on of all different specs, from underfloor heated Fibresand and Hybrid sisgrass to topsoil pitches with a high quality finish.
All materials, imported by around 1,500 artics, had to be transported by our dumptrucks from a storage area and pushed out, compacted and graded to within 10mm tolerances.
Big thanks to the great British summer we had this year, made our lives a lot easier.

Drainage in. Cut off/toe drain around perimeter and a main drain with starts for pitch drainage. Dug with our ejector bucket as nothing else will do with this sticky clay, plus it's the ideal size.
Type 3 stone starting to come in. Hopefully the pitch will be blue with stone soon (if the lorries can keep up) and the surrounds topsoiled, ready for seeding.

The makings of a 3G sports pitch with goal recess' carved out of the bank. Built on a sloping field, 2 metres lower than original field level at the top and 2 metres higher at the bottom. All good fun when the sun is out 🌞 Ready to start putting drains in and a clean stone layer 👍🏻
