Sometimes it's not dirt.
When I showed up to clean this carpet at a local daycare it had been left so long and had so much traffic that the backing was actually showing through.
I can clean dirt. I can remove a surprising number of stains. But once the carpet fibres themselves are worn away, no amount of cleaning is going to put them back.
That's one of the reasons I tell people not to wait until their carpet looks terrible before having it cleaned. Maintenance is always better than replacing it.

Did you know these come off?
I was at a customer's home cleaning their HRV system and dryer vents when I noticed their portable air conditioner. The filters were completely plugged up with dust and pet hair.
They had no idea the filters even came off.
And why would they? Nobody had ever shown them.
I wasn't there to clean their air conditioner, but it only took a couple of minutes to show them where the filters were, how to take them out, how to clean them themselves, as well as how often to check them and why airflow matters.

I cleaned this bathroom fan yesterday, and it reminded me how easy these are to forget about. Most people never think about their bathroom ceiling fan...until it stops doing its job.

Over time, dust builds up on the fan blades and inside the housing. When that happens, the fan can't move as much air as it was designed to. Less airflow means more humidity stays in the bathroom, which can lead to foggy mirrors that take longer to clear, lingering moisture, and over time can contribute to musty smells or even mould. Regular use of bathroom fans helps remove excess moisture from the air.
The good news?
Cleaning it is usually quick and can help it move air properly again while also extending the life of the fan.
It's one of those little things that's easy to forget about, but it makes a bigger difference than most people realize.

Have you had your carpet raked lately?
Most people notice the fresh look of a professionally cleaned carpet, but many don't realize one of the final steps happens after the cleaning is finished.
On every cut pile carpet we clean, we finish the job by carefully grooming (or "raking") the carpet.
Why?
