Maytag and Whirlpool oven fans issues and resolve.

PROBLEM
Cooling fan will not cycle off after cooking cycles.

CAUSE
When the control is set to Energy Save Mode (not described in the Use and Care Guide), the control will not cycle the cooling fan off.

NOTE
An oven that’s operating normally will run the cooling fan after cooking cycles until the oven cavity cools to 100⁰C or 212⁰F. This could take up to 45 minutes.

SOLUTION
Deactivate the Energy Save Mode. Press and hold the Settings keypad for three seconds or until you see “Energy Save Off” in the upper text area. The clock will reappear in the display, and the range can be operated as designed.

Sears and Whirlpool Electric Dryer

Whirlpool manufactures most Sears Kenmore dryers. Those product's model number will start with 110... The only difference between the Sears and Whirlpool dryers is the control console configuration and markings and some features.

Problem Diagnostics

Will Not Heat

The fault may not lie with your dryer; check the power outlet.
The heater element may have open coils and need replacement.
The operating or high limit thermostats may have burned open.
The timer's heat circuit contact may be damaged.
The motor switch's heater circuit contacts may be defective.

Nothing Happens

You have set the cycle and other control selections and engaged the start button but nothing happens.

Make sure you have completely closed the door. Locate the door switch actuator lever in the upper right hand corner of the door opening. If it does not click, you may have to replace the door switch.
One circuit in the circuit breaker for the wall power outlet may have tripped.
Did it smell like something was burning and when you checked the dryer plug, one of the metal prongs was charred.
There is a thermal fuse in the rear of the dryer that may have opened up.
The start switch may have failed.
The drive motor thermal protector may have tripped. If the motor doesn't run correctly after it has cooled off, it may have to be replaced.
The broken belt switch (if so equipped) may be defective or the belt broken.

Dryer Stops Running Before Timer Advanced to OFF

If the dryer stops and can only be restarted 15-30 minutes later, the motor may be overheating.

Dryer Never Stops

If the dryer never stops and the timer advances past the off position to the next cycle, the start switch may have shorted contacts.

Dryer Runs as Soon as Timer is Set

If the dryer starts running as soon as the timer is set and the door is closed, the push to start switch may have shorted contacts.

Dryer Only Runs While Start Button is Pressed

The motor switch may be malfunctioning.
The broken belt switch (if so equipped) may be defective or the belt broken.
The Even Heat control system (if so equipped) may be malfunctioning.

Dryer Makes Unusual Sounds

If you hear a loud rumble from the rear of the dryer, you may have to replace the drum rollers.
The idler pulley may need some attention if you hear high frequency squeaks and squealing.
A loud whine from the rear may indicate that something got caught in the blower assembly.
A clinking and clacking from inside the drum is usually caused by coins in the drum baffles.

Hot Inside but Dries Slow

Check for blockage in the dryer vent hose.
Make sure the lint filter is clean.
If the drum is not turning, the belt may be broken.

Gets too Hot

Check the high limit and the operating thermostats.
If the lint filter is not completely seated, cool outside air will enter via the lint filter chute and cause the operating thermostats to demand more heat.
If the cabinet gets hotter than normal but clothes are still not drying, check the dryer venting all the way from the dryer to the outdoors.

Won't Turn Off in the Auto Dry Cycle

Dryers need heat to complete auto cycles. Go back to the "Will Not Heat" section to look for the cause.
If the operating thermostat fails open, the auto cycle won't complete. Check the operating thermostats.
Check the power resister for being open.
If your dryer is out in the garage and it's freezing cold out there, your dryer may not finish an auto cycle.

Ice Maker issues?

Why doesn't my Icemaker make ice?

The water filter may be plugged with sediment, or you may have low water pressure. The water pressure for icemakers needs to be at least 40 psi, and up to about 120 psi for proper operation. Water filters need to be changed every six months. If you would like to test your water pressure, we have an Icemaker Water Flow Tester available from our website. This will help you to determine if the water pressure at the supply line is high enough for the icemaker to function properly.

To determine if your filter is plugged, look for water both before and after the filter. It may be hard to determine if there is water flowing through the filter. Sometimes it is necessary to pull the filter out of the feed line to see if water is flowing from the exit of the filter into the refrigerator or freezer. You can do this over a bucket to catch any dripping water. Some models have a filter bypass plug to help determine if the filter is clogged. If so, you would remove the filter and replace it with the filter bypass plug. Now test your water flow.

If your refrigerator has a water dispenser, you can hold a large cup or glass under it for 20 seconds. You should have poured about 13-14 oz. of water in that 20 seconds. If the amount is less, try removing the filter and bypassing it. If you now get the 13-14 oz. of water, the filter was clogged and it's time to replace it. If not, you have low water pressure in the line, and your icemaker may not work properly.

On occasion, the water inlet tube will freeze where it enters the icemaker. This can happen because the water is dripping slowly, or the freezer is just set too cold. A hair blow dryer can be used to thaw this, but be careful around the plastic tubing. You don't want it to crack or deform. You may want to turn the thermostat up a little bit if this is a regular occurrence. If you have a constant, regular drip, you may want to invest in a new water fill valve.

Another reason that your icemaker may not be making ice is the bail arm along the side of the icemaker. This arm must be in the lowered position for the icemaker to operate. If the arm is stuck up, it has shut the unit off. This is a safety feature of the unit. Normally, if there's too much ice in the bin, the arm will get stuck in the raised position and keep any more water from entering the icemaker. You must lower the arm to begin making more ice.
