A few weeks ago I posted about the importance of regular checks on fire exits. Today I did some work on one such door which did not pass fire inspection. The door would not close and latch on its own , which is a requirement. I lubricated all the parts on the vertical rod exit device, but also noticed that arm on the door closer, was not in the proper position. When I attempted to properly position the arm I discovered that arm of the closer was not long enough to reach the bracket. The original installer got the screw holes a little off and shoe was too far away. I had to reposition the bracket on the top jamp. When a closer is installed like this, the forearm on the closer should be parallel with door. In the wrong position it can and will affect how the door closes. Once all was done the door now closes completely on its own. Got a lock problem , need some advice on hardware , or repairs. Give me call text, or email. Have a Safe & Secure day.
