From Fields of Green to Screens of Code: My Pivot to Digital Technologies - Part II
A Green Revolution with a Twist
As our company ventured deeper into the renewable energy sector, we faced an unexpected challenge. Despite employing qualified electrical technicians from our local technical college, we were receiving a concerning number of callbacks on our solar installations. This issue, while initially perplexing, ultimately led to a groundbreaking initiative.
Recognising that the problem likely stemmed from a gap in specialised knowledge, I decided to take a strategic move and organised and hosted the very first Residential Solar Installation course in Zimbabwe. The idea was to bridge the gap between general electrical knowledge and the specific requirements of solar technology. I reached out to a regional industry experts and worked together with him to design a comprehensive curriculum that would cover everything from the basics of solar technology to advanced installation techniques. By providing comprehensive training to our technicians and others in the industry, I aimed to elevate the standard of solar installations and reduce the occurrence of callbacks.
This initiative was more than just a solution to a technical problem. It was a demonstration of my entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation. I saw an opportunity to not only improve our company's services but also to contribute to the growth of the renewable energy sector in Zimbabwe.
By offering specialised training, I was able to create a pool of skilled technicians who could meet the increasing demand for solar installations. This not only benefited our company but also had a positive impact on the broader community.
Leading the Way in Renewable Energy
Organising such a course was no small feat. It required meticulous planning, securing funding, and coordinating with various stakeholders. But my passion for innovation and my commitment to being on the leading edge of technology drove me forward.
The inaugural Residential Solar Installation course was a resounding success. Participants gained invaluable experience and confidence, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The course not only addressed the immediate issue of callbacks but also set a new standard for solar installation training in Zimbabwe.
As I continue to explore the intersection of technology and sustainability, I am committed to remaining at the forefront of the industry. My journey has been a testament to the power of innovation and the importance of investing in people and technology.
PS! It's interesting to note that I was the only female in that class. Only just noticing myself. It's also heartwarming that many other ladies have since joined the trade.
