Elevator shaft construction in progress involves building a rigid, vertical enclosure—using poured concrete, masonry blocks, or steel framing—that extends continuously from a recessed foundation pit to the top of the building.

Key Stages of Construction

Excavation and Pit Formation: Workers dig and pour a reinforced concrete pit below the lowest landing level so the future elevator car floor aligns flush with the building floor.

Framing or Wall Er****on: Crews build the vertical shaft walls using concrete masonry units (CMU), poured concrete forms, or heavy-duty wood/steel framing. Vertical rebar and lintels are added for structural stability.

Scaffolding and Alignment: Installers use rising platforms or scaffolding towers inside or around the shaft to safely work at elevated heights while aligning guide rail brackets.

Waterproofing and Finishing: Once the main vertical tower is complete, expansion joints, exterior blocks, and waterproofing sealants are applied to protect the interior mechanism.

Diverter Sheaves & Suspension Ropes: The yellow grooved pulley wheels redirect the heavy-duty steel hoist cables running vertically up through the shaft, balancing the cabin weight alongside the counterweight system.

Structural Frame: The vertical metal beams on the sides are protected by blue laser film to safeguard the clean stainless steel surface from scratches during construction.
