Y'all, do we have a testimony to share with all of you.
Late Wednesday evening, after dark, we found ourselves comfortably in our beds. The plan? A good night's rest before a day of bed prep and other work (the paying kind).
The reality? The unexpected, loud sounds of an angry bonfire, sounding far too close for comfort. Initially I thought my somewhat sleep-deprived brain was conjuring up unspeakable things. A quick peek through the window in the spare bedroom quickly dispelled any such comforting notions. 😆
So, there we were, having identified a rather large fire, and at a bit of a loss since we'd never dealt with this kind of situation before. What do you do when you don't know what to do? You give it to God and you make tea.
A quick prayer, some beautiful green tea, and a discussion with emergency services later, all that was left to do was wait.
Eventually the fire department arrived, and the evening ran its course.
We went to bed exhausted, but not disheartened. God's hand is present in so many aspects of our lives. Even this smallholding is something that seemed like a pipe dream 10 years ago.
And, y'all, this is what we found on Thursday morning. Not a single garden bed, fruit tree, or perennial suffered damage. The flames burnt underneath the fruit trees but the trees themselves were untouched.
Despite a ludicrous amount of combustible materials on the cusp of some of our gardens, the flames simply burned out, or turned and went in a different direction.
The fire stopped like a wall, just short of our sugarcane patch, with an almost defined line of demarcation. Not even our singular plants, remnants from the previous season, were burnt. The flames stopped a mere handbreadth away, and went no further.
We've seen it before, and now we've seen it again. When God says He's got you, He's got you. No scheme of the devil or attack can prosper where God is establishing something.
