Another elderly woman has been murdered on her farm.

At times like this, I honestly feel like giving up on South Africa.

For more than 30 years, I have been developing defensive security solutions specifically for situations like these. Yet there has been little to no interest from much of the security industry, farmer organizations, or community safety structures. After all this time, it is difficult to believe that these groups are unaware that such options exist.

What frustrates me most is wondering how different the outcome might have been had someone simply told her that solutions were available. Even if she could not afford them, I would have done everything possible to find sponsors or supporters to help finance the supply and installation of a suitable system.

Instead, another life has been lost, and once again we are left discussing the tragedy after the fact.

The videos speak for themselves. If anyone doubts the effectiveness of these systems, I invite them to experience a demonstration. There is a world of difference between discussing a solution in theory and facing it in reality. The purpose of these systems is not to guarantee safety, but to create an opportunity to interrupt an attack, buy valuable time, and improve the chances of survival.

What saddens me most is that this lady is now another statistic who may never have been told that options existed.

I know some will criticize me for posting this and accuse me of trying to profit from someone else's tragedy. My response is simple: if you believe these solutions have merit, why were vulnerable people not informed about them years ago? Why are we still waiting until after another tragedy to discuss prevention?

My sincere condolences go to the family and loved ones affected by this terrible loss.

This video is based on a real incident where intruders gained access to a residential property by forcing entry at the main gate.

Fortunately, the attempt was disrupted and the suspects fled before further escalation.

However, the incident highlighted a critical reality , once access is gained, the risk to occupants increases significantly, and response may still be minutes away.

Following this event, a layered, disruptive defensive system was installed to address the vulnerabilities identified.

These solutions are designed to act in the moment of crisis:
1) Disrupting and Deterring intruders
2) Delaying and Denying further access
3) Creating critical time until help arrives

Importantly, the system is configured to engage threats externally, allowing occupants to remain safely inside and avoiding direct confrontation.

This separation is vital, not only for physical safety, but also to reduce the psychological impact often associated with violent encounters.

What happens in the critical seconds before response arrives and who owns that gap?

In high-risk environments, that window is where outcomes are decided.

You can never compromise on your safety.

Response services remain a cornerstone of effective security. However, by definition, they engage after an incident has begun.

The reality is that threats develop rapidly at access points, gates, garages, entry doors, whether in urban settings, estates, or on farms and smallholdings where isolation can delay assistance.
