A STRONG VOICE FOR PROPERTY OWNERS AND BUSINESSES
While small businesses face daily pressure to control costs, create jobs and keep their businesses afloat, municipal decisions are being made that can have a direct impact on the local business environment and the broader community.
When new tariffs, levies, regulations, land-use decisions, infrastructure projects or service-delivery measures are introduced without adequate consultation with local businesses, the unintended consequences can include higher operating costs, reduced investment, job losses and a weakening local economy.
The Solution
The solution is meaningful cooperation between the municipality, local businesses and the community before important decisions are made.
For example, a Local Business Forum could be established to engage regularly with the municipality in order to:
โข Discuss proposed decisions and policies with businesses in advance.
โข Assess the economic impact of new tariffs and regulations.
โข Identify infrastructure and service-delivery problems at an early stage.
โข Develop practical solutions collaboratively.
โข Communicate feedback and concerns from businesses and residents to the municipality.
The principle is simple: Decisions that affect the local economy should not be made without consulting the local economy.
A strong local economy creates jobs, supports households, expands the tax base and ultimately contributes to a stronger community.
I will advocate for transparent and predictable consultation processes BEFORE any substantial increases in property rates, tariffs or the introduction of new levies.
Core Principle: Residents First!
