CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: CLOTHING MANUFACTURING SKILLS PROGRAMME!!!
The Cape Business and Engineering College (CBEC), in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology Centre (NMBSTC), invites applications for the Clothing Manufacturing Skills Programme. This intensive two-month practical training initiative is designed to equip unemployed individuals with foundational, industry-relevant garment manufacturing skills.
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW AND CURRICULUM
A cohort of 20 selected participants will undergo comprehensive practical training covering the end-to-end garment manufacturing process. The curriculum includes:
• Interpretation of garment designs and patterns
• Fabric preparation and cutting
• Sewing techniques and industrial sewing machine operation
• Garment assembly and finishing
• Quality control assurance
• Fundamental garment production processes
• Basic Business Calculations
• Occupational Health and Safety
• Communication
The primary objective of this programme is to enhance participants' employability, foster entrepreneurial development, and facilitate meaningful participation in the local clothing and textile value chain.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND DELIVERY
The programme will be executed over a two-month period, structured as follows:
• Practical Training (3 days per week): Hands-on sewing and manufacturing lessons will be conducted at the Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology Centre.
• Theoretical Component (2 days per week): Self-directed theoretical coursework to be completed remotely.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Prospective applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
• Be between the ages of 18 and 35. (Note: Applicants over the age of 35 will be considered based on demonstrated motivation, commitment, and suitability).
• People with disabilities who are capable of safely operating sewing machinery are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Possess a minimum educational qualification of NQF Level 2/Grade 10.
• Be currently unemployed and possess a strong interest in pursuing opportunities within the clothing and textile sector.
• Demonstrate a clear commitment to developing practical sewing and garment manufacturing competencies.
• Be available and committed to attending the full two-month programme.
EQUITY AND TARGET DEMOGRAPHICS
The programme targets a minimum of 70% female participation to advance opportunities for women within the clothing and textile industry.
CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
Applicants must take note of the following logistical conditions:
• Transport & catering: No transport or catering will be provided. Participants are responsible for arranging and funding their own transport to and from the training venue and must bring their own lunch.
• Attendance: Successful applicants must strictly adhere to the practical training schedule and complete all required theoretical components.
