New signage, same studio.

A small detail, but one that makes our space feel a little more ours.

Our new R.Studio signage is going up — slowly bringing the identity of the studio into the physical space we work from every day.

Architecture is often about the details that make a place feel considered. Sometimes, that starts right at the front door.

Honouring what came before. Heritage architecture is about more than preserving old buildings.

It’s about understanding what is there, respecting its history and character, and finding thoughtful ways to allow it to evolve.

This drawing is one small glimpse into that process — the conversations, revisions and careful decisions that happen long before a project takes shape on site.

Happy Heritage Day from R.Studio. 🇿🇦

It’s all about the light and views!

Windows, shadows, reflections and glimpses of what lies beyond.

As nears completion, we’re starting to see the little moments we imagined during the design process — sunlight moving across surfaces, views being framed and filtered, and screens creating just enough distortion to make you pause.

Three weeks to go… and we’re loving watching this one come together.

A morning at Klay. Good architecture starts long before the building site.

We spent the morning getting behind the scenes at Klay — seeing where the products come from, exploring their different ranges and getting a better understanding of what’s possible.

For us, these visits are about specifying with intention — knowing the materials, understanding the options and being able to make informed choices for our projects and clients.

Because sometimes the best part of the design process is getting out of the studio and seeing things for ourselves.

One of my favourite small spaces we’ve designed.

This little sauna + cold plunge room at Ellerman House | Relais & Châteaux remains one of my favourite spaces to date.

There’s something about working within a small footprint that forces you to really think about every line, every material and every detail.

Here, the freeform timber screens and slatted surfaces soften the space, creating rhythm, movement and a quiet, almost poetic energy.

A small space — but one designed to make you slow down, breathe and stay a little longer.

The beauty of the in-between.

Before the finishes.
Before the furniture.
Before the final details.

Just space, light, proportion and a glimpse of what’s to come.

This is where the vision starts to feel real.

Thinking about building or renovating, but not quite sure where to start?

We get it!!

There’s a lot that happens between “we want to build” and finally turning the key — and knowing what to expect can make the whole process feel a lot less overwhelming.

I’ve put together a series of simple, practical guides to help you navigate the process:

• What to consider before starting a building project
• How the architectural design process works
• The key role players involved in a project
• Understanding the role of your contractor
• Contracts and important things to consider before you build
• And more to help you make informed decisions along the way.

The aim is simple: to take some of the mystery out of building.

If you’re thinking about taking the leap — or know someone who is — have a look through the resources on our website.

At , we’re in the final stretch — finishes are going in, details are being ticked off, and the vision we’ve been working towards is finally becoming tangible.

Just a little more patience…
and this one will be ready for its people.

Almost home.

A little bit of the person behind R.Studio.

Earlier this year, our founder, Rochelle Derksen, was featured in , sharing a little about the thinking behind our work — our approach to architecture, interiors and creating spaces that are considered, personal and made for real life.

Because good design isn’t just about how a space looks.

It’s about how it feels, functions and ultimately becomes yours.

Very proud to have our philosophy shared a little further afield.

When the lines between client, architect and project manager get a little blurry… It usually means there’s a whole lot of care going into the project.

At House Van den Berg, the roof is up, the walls are plastered, and today we started priming. Behind the scenes, the final finishes are being selected, details are being resolved and decisions are being made — lots of them.

Now comes the big push.

Another month and a half of hard work, and this house should be ready for its family to move in.We’re getting there. And we’re very excited to see this one come together.
