The three photos in this post are real examples of what can happen when an electrical connection becomes loose or develops poor contact.

A loose connection can create excessive heat at the connection point. Over time, this can damage terminals, melt insulation and components, and potentially create a serious fire hazard.

⚠️ Warning signs can include:
• Burning or unusual smells
• Discolouration around plugs, switches or the DB
• Crackling or buzzing sounds
• Intermittent power
• Signs of overheating
• Breakers or earth leakage tripping unexpectedly

The dangerous part? Everything may appear to be working normally while the connection is overheating.

💡 BESTARK TIP:
Don't ignore unusual smells, heat, discolouration or electrical problems. Have them investigated before a small fault becomes an expensive — or dangerous — problem.

⚡ A tiny spark hiding a serious electrical fault

The client reported an earth-leakage unit that kept tripping intermittently—sometimes it tripped, and sometimes everything appeared to work normally.

During fault-finding, the cause was not immediately obvious. However, a closer inspection revealed a small red glow between the terminal connections.

That red dot was electrical arcing caused by a loose connection.

The poor connection was generating excessive heat, and the insulation on the cable had already started to burn and melt. Left unattended, this could have caused further damage and created a serious fire risk.

The damaged connection was identified and repaired before the situation became worse.

⚠️ Intermittent electrical problems should never be ignored. Just because the power comes back on does not mean the fault has disappeared.

If your earth leakage or circuit breakers trip unexpectedly, let us investigate the cause.
