If you are revamping your old kitchen rather than having a new one installed there are some important things you need to be aware of.
Firstly – this process can be very challenging for the kitchen company. In fact, many kitchen manufacturers will not undertake a job where they are expected to reuse carcasses or tops because of the problems it can cause them.
Secondly – you cannot hold the company responsible for your old materials. Until they actually get in there and start working with what you already have, they won’t have a real idea of whether it has been compromised in any way.
Thirdly – material matching will be impossible as what you already have will have altered in colour over time as it has been exposed to sunlight, cleaning agents, and other environmental factors. A close match is what you should hope for.
Fourthly – there is a high chance of additional costs arising. As we said above the company will only know the true state of your existing finishes once they are in there working with it. It may become necessary to remake carcassing or replace hinges in order to make the renovation viable.
Fifthly – the joint between old and new units will never be seamless. While the company will do their best to make the kitchen look like one cohesive space there is a very high chance that you will be able to see where the old units end and the new begin.
Finally – you may find that the company alters the warranty on their work and does not offer the same length of warranty as they would with a new kitchen.
