THE SAIL
Commercial office tower proposal for a large multinational marketing firm and an international co-working office giant.
This proposal contains 32000sqm of bulk over 20 storeys.
This building was conceptually inspired by a sail. As sails are designed to capture wind, this buildings' facade emulated that from, in order to capture the panoramic views of the Sandton / Johannesburg skyline with stepped wings. The facade blurs the line between roof and wall with stark aliminium fins, which shield it from the harsh East-West light while enforcing the conceptual aesthetic. Off-shutter concrete panels define the bulk of the wall using glazing only where necessary and timber louvers to add warmth to the overall composition.
