πŸ‘· FROM THE TEAM

One of the most common issues we observe during site inspections is that workers become familiar with risks that are present every day.

Over time, hazards such as vehicle movement, blind spots, and traffic interactions can begin to feel routine.

The challenge is that vehicles don't become less dangerous simply because we see them every day.

Maintaining awareness, following site controls, and communicating effectively remain some of the most important tools for preventing incidents.

Safety starts with awareness and is maintained through consistency.

πŸ“ SITE VISIT | ROAD & TRAFFIC SAFETY IN ACTION

Effective traffic management is more than a documentβ€”it is demonstrated through visible, practical controls on-site.

During a recent site visit, our team observed traffic management measures designed to improve safety for both workers and road users.

Key observations included:

βœ” Clearly defined work zones
βœ” Effective traffic delineation
βœ” Improved visibility for motorists
βœ” Safe separation between vehicles and work activities

Consistent monitoring and regular inspections help ensure these controls remain effective as site conditions change.

At Amkhoib, we believe that proactive site inspections play a critical role in reducing risk and maintaining compliance.

πŸ‘· SHOULD SPOTTERS BE MANDATORY ON ALL ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION SITES?

Spotters are often used to help manage blind spots, direct vehicle movement, and improve communication between operators and ground personnel.

Some believe spotters should be mandatory whenever heavy vehicles are operating.

Others believe their use should depend on the outcome of a site-specific risk assessment.

What's your view?

πŸ’¬ Should spotters be mandatory on all active construction sites?

🚜 SAFE REVERSING PRACTICES

Reversing incidents remain one of the most common causes of vehicle-related injuries on construction and industrial sites.

Limited visibility, blind spots, and poor communication can quickly turn a routine manoeuvre into a serious incident.

Before any reverse movement takes place, consider the following:

βœ” Use a trained spotter where visibility is restricted
βœ” Establish and maintain exclusion zones
βœ” Ensure reversing alarms are functional
βœ” Communicate clearly with surrounding personnel
βœ” Plan the movement before the vehicle moves

Every reverse movement should be treated as a high-risk activity.

A few moments of planning can prevent life-changing consequences.

πŸ’¬ What reversing controls does your site use to reduce risk?

Traffic management plans are essential on construction and industrial sites β€” but having a plan in place does not automatically guarantee safety.

One of the biggest challenges we continue to observe is that site conditions constantly change:
β€’ delivery routes shift
β€’ work zones expand
β€’ pedestrian movement changes
β€’ vehicle activity increases

Over time, workers can also become familiar with site routines, causing important controls to be overlooked.

Safety systems only work when they are actively maintained, monitored, and reinforced on-site.

A traffic management plan should not simply exist for compliance purposes β€”
it should form part of the site’s daily safety culture.

What do you think is the biggest reason traffic management systems fail on-site?

🚧 SITE VISIT | Safe Roads, Safe Sites

A traffic management plan may look good on paper β€”
but its real effectiveness is measured by how it performs on-site.

During a recent site visit, our team observed well-structured delineation zones designed to separate active construction work from moving traffic safely and effectively.

These controls are more than just compliance requirements β€”
they are critical safety barriers protecting both workers and road users.

Key observations from the inspection:
βœ” High-visibility delineators correctly positioned and secured
βœ” Clear separation between traffic routes and active work areas
βœ” Predictable traffic flow to reduce confusion and risk
βœ” Improved visibility for motorists, operators, and pedestrians

One thing remains clear:
When traffic controls are consistent, visible, and properly maintained, site risks reduce significantly.

As site conditions change daily, traffic management systems should continuously evolve alongside them.

Despite strict safety procedures, traffic-related risks remain one of the biggest hazards on many construction sites.

From blind spots and unsafe reversing practices to poor signage and pedestrian interaction, even small oversights can create serious risks.

In your opinion, what is the biggest traffic risk currently affecting construction sites?

🚧 Speeding
🚜 Blind Spots
⚠ Poor Signage

One of the most dangerous moments on-site is when vehicles and pedestrians share the same space.

Heavy vehicles and construction equipment have large blind spots, making it difficult for operators to always see nearby workers. Without proper traffic controls, a single moment of distraction can lead to serious incidents.

Effective vehicle and pedestrian separation measures may include:
βœ” Designated walkways
βœ” Exclusion zones
βœ” Barriers and barricading
βœ” Spotters during reversing operations
βœ” Clear traffic signage and controls

If you can’t see the driver, the driver probably can’t see you.

Safe sites are designed to separate people from moving vehicles wherever possible.

What control measures does your site use to reduce vehicle-pedestrian interaction?
