Space above. Shade below.

HouseZero’s cantilevered forms extend the home outwards, creating sheltered patios for outdoor dining, quiet afternoons and everyday living. Exposed steel gives the architecture its character, while keeping the connection to the garden open.

Cantilevered elements are used throughout HouseZero to create sheltered patios, entrances and outdoor living areas beneath the building.
By extending the upper structure beyond its supports, these covered spaces remain open and unobstructed, with fewer perimeter columns interrupting movement or views. The result is practical shade and weather protection, while strengthening the connection between the house and its surroundings.

Eye level with the giraffes.

The elevated Bush Shrike places the living space above the landscape—opening long views while creating shaded parking below. Glass walls, timber shutters and an integrated solar roof make it a compact HouseZero home designed for life in the African bush.
