Before the house reveals itself in full, Val de Vie offers a series of quiet introductions, from a living wall that greets you along the entrance walkway to a brass tap curving gracefully over a basin carved from richly veined stone.

The facade then appears at dusk, its black steel gables glowing with warm light from within, and the journey continues through a hall where the oak stair floats against two storeys of glass, a dining room lit by glittering chandeliers, and a kitchen gathered around a magnificent island of stone.

Every room was designed to open towards the winelands, so that the mountains, the garden and the changing light of the day become part of the experience of moving through this home.

Imagine sinking into a deep freestanding bath while the mountains of the winelands stretch across the horizon in front of you, because in the main bathroom at Val de Vie, that view was the starting point for every design decision.

The tub sits right by the glass so the landscape fills the frame, while fluted timber, pale veined stone and the soft gleam of brass create a palette that feels serene, warm and deeply restful. Sculptural loops of light hang above the vanity like pieces of jewellery, and the walk-in shower is wrapped in the same beautiful stone, with a softly lit niche tracing its full length.

It is a room created for slow mornings and unhurried evenings, where every line has been set out to celebrate the view.

In Waterfall, this home frames the sky with a quiet confidence, its deep eaves reaching out to cast generous pools of shade while clean, unbroken planes give the architecture a calm and timeless presence.

Glass has been placed precisely where the garden asks for it, so that every room enjoys its own composed view of greenery and light, and the house feels as though it was designed from the outside in and from the inside out at the very same time.

The living room at Val de Vie soars through a full double volume, and at its heart stands a stone-clad chimney wall that holds the fireplace like a centrepiece, flanked by a tall run of timber battens that draws the eye all the way up to the high windows and the sky beyond.

Herringbone timber runs warmly underfoot, deep sofas invite you to settle in for the evening, and stone-topped tables gather flowers, books and treasured objects within easy reach, while the dining room and its glittering chandeliers glow just beyond.

Whether there is a fire crackling on a cool winter night or sunlight pouring through the glass on a long summer afternoon, this is a room designed above all for gathering the people you love.

As the light softens over the winelands, the gardens at Val de Vie reveal a series of beautifully composed outdoor rooms, each one shaped by the way the architecture steps gracefully in and out.

A pool terrace is framed by tall cypresses and warm timber decking, a lawn rolls out towards the estate beyond, and a sunken garden court, tucked among lush planting, invites slow conversations long after the sun has set.

These pockets of calm are designed to be enjoyed at every hour of the day, though there is something truly magical about watching them glow beneath a pastel dusk sky.

Every home has its own rhythm, shaped by the people who live in it. The way a kitchen is used, where the family gathers, how a guest room needs to work, or what makes a child’s bedroom feel like their own. These details may seem small, but they are often what shape the design.

Across these interiors, each space began with a brief rooted in real life and was developed into something considered, practical and personal. From generous kitchen islands and relaxed family lounges to flexible guest spaces and rooms designed around individual personalities, the details are there for a reason.

Good interior design doesn’t just make a room look beautiful. It responds to how a home is lived in.

Thatch over an exposed timber structure, stone piers carrying the load, and the fire at the centre where it has always belonged. The proportions are what make it feel new: a longer span, a lower eave, and steel resolving the structure quietly behind the joinery.
