I'm back at my easel now. This is what I have been working on lately. More baobabs to come 🙂

Fun fact! I see that I have made 116 posts up to now, and I have 116 followers on Instagram. Which reminds me that I would like to thank each one of you for taking an interest in my work. Thank you for all the likes and comments and reshares and support. The next best thing to doing what I love is having someone else appreciate it!

I would also like to thank a collector of mine who has sent me a photo of some of my works acquired earlier this year, that have since found a place in their home. Patience, Chastity and Serenity were part of a collection of 12 succulents that were on show at the Easter Exhibition at Tina Skukan Gallery this past April. The three of them now brighten up a very calm and elegant interior, and I hope they bring their new owners much joy!

New work loading...
Painstaking work, drawing branches and twigs. Control and concentration. It needs to be just so, as every kind of tree has its own geometry. Working on my kitchen table, as I can't reach the top when sitting at my easel.

Thrilled that someone liked my collection of big trees so much that they bought six of them to display in their home!

"This is my favorite.. The most important pieces I make are those people decide they want to live with & see every day of their lives— the pieces they choose to collect— not just look at & walk away.

Following its recent sale, "African star chestnut" is now reunited with five of its siblings. I am delighted that six works out of a collection of eight big trees have found a home together! Many thanks to my lovely collector.

Landscapes, skyscapes, cloudscapes. Call them what you will, I love making them. This is the third one I made in this panoramic format.

I remember the day I took the photo on which this one is based so clearly. We had been in Zambia for a week by then and the memory of the bone-dry Botswana pans were still fresh. We were traversing the Liuwa floodplain en route from Katoyana to Mukalabumbu, two pairs of mzungu in Cruiser rigs slowly bouncing along the rutted tracks. The second-largest wildebeest migration in Africa was in full swing. Hundreds of rock pratincoles wheeling in the air, gorging themselves on flying insects. No signposts, no man-made structures as far as the eye can see all around. Huge banks of rainclouds stacked up, intermittently spilling their precious cargo as they slowly drift southwest.

Pencil study of my own left hand, class exercise. Drawing one's own hand is a lot harder than it may seem. The perspective changes with every slight shift of one's head. Keeping one's hand still gets uncomfortable after a while, and repositioning it the exact same way after moving it is almost impossible. The proportions did not come out quite right but even so, I remember being rather pleased with it.

Now you might wonder why I dug out this old study from the archives to post today. To be honest, I don't have much else to show you right now. Due to an unfortunate domestic mishap my right hand (the productive, hard working one, not the layabout artist's model 😅) needed some surgery to repair a ruptured tendon. I am wearing a brace at the moment to limit the use of my hand while it heals. There is also a dressing as well as some stitches that need to be kept clean and dry.

I do have some new work in the pipeline and hope to get back to it soon. Watch this space!
