A glimpse behind the scenes 👷‍♀️🏗️

Our office recently had the privilege of visiting the Shukuma Flooring factory in Gqeberha and gaining insight into the manufacturing process behind their concrete slabs and other precast concrete elements.

Having specified these products on a number of our projects, it was fascinating to see first-hand how they are designed and manufactured. Understanding the process gives us a much better appreciation of the capabilities, possibilities and applications of the products we specify.

There is always value in understanding not only what we specify, but also how it is made.

Today we honour and celebrate the life of Tony Crake, who passed away peacefully on 25 February 2026.

Tony was not only an exceptional architect, but a truly inspiring human being. His designs were distinctive and courageous — he was never afraid to challenge the norm and push creative boundaries. Beyond architecture, he was a gifted artist, a passionate traveller, and a wonderful storyteller whose journeys enriched both his work and those around him.

We at Adendorff Architects are deeply grateful for his presence in our firm over the past few years, and especially for the mentorship and guidance he gave to our Director, Gillian Adendorff, throughout her career. His wisdom, creativity and generous spirit have left a lasting imprint on our practice.

Tony will be truly missed, but we remain thankful for a life so beautifully and fully lived.

Working with a tight budget was a challenge, but turning potential into beauty is exactly why we love what we do.

With a blend of beach tones and earthy textures, this project is starting to capture the true essence of our client’s vision — calm, grounded and effortlessly coastal. 🤍🌿🌊

MD Office, Uitenhage

We had the privilege of upgrading and redesigning the Managing Director’s office for a major international motor manufacturing company.

With an exciting rebrand underway, we incorporated subtle yet powerful elements of our African continent to celebrate the company’s footprint, heritage, and contribution across Africa.

We’re incredibly proud of the final space and the atmosphere it conveys — a refined balance of identity, innovation, and place.

BEDFORD, EASTERN CAPE

Where old meets new ✨
We’re excited to introduce one of our current projects on the drawing board — a unique transformation set in the breathtaking Baviaans River Valley near Bedford, Eastern Cape.

Our client’s vision is to honour the rich history held within the existing structure by re-using and celebrating as much of it as possible. The result? A small lodge designed for hunters and nature-lovers to truly experience the landscape.

By retaining the original building and thoughtfully layering in modern architectural elements, we’re creating a dialogue between past and present — a contrast that doesn’t distract, but elevates both.

We’re only at the beginning… let’s see where this journey takes us.
