Case Study 01: Wharf Street, Port Alfred.
The opportunity: Wharf Street already functions as an informal waterfront precinct - restaurants, a craft brewery, an art gallery, all fronting the Kowie River. What's missing is the connective tissue: consistent paving, lighting, seating, and signage that turn a strip of businesses into a destination.
Why it matters. For tourism: a unified promenade gives visitors a reason to linger, and spend, rather than pass through.
For the community: better public space here means more informal trade opportunities, safer evening use, and a stronger sense of civic pride in the town center.
This is the kind of small-footprint, high-impact intervention we love thinking about. Over the next few weeks, we'll share similar concepts for other key spots around town.
