🪵✨ FROM OUTDATED AND CLUNKY TO BEAUTIFULLY FUNCTIONAL! ✨🪡

Why replace a solid piece of furniture when it can be given a completely new purpose?

This beautiful solid oak cabinet had served its purpose for many years, but its original design — complete with a TV and decoder space, built-in w**e rack, serving hatch and limited storage — no longer suited our client's needs.

Our client approached Crane’s Nest with a new vision: transform this large cabinet into a practical, functional sewing station without losing its character.

And that's exactly what we did! 🔨

🪡 THE TRANSFORMATION INCLUDED:

✔️ Converted the bottom section into a drawer cabinet with deep drawers for easy access and generous storage.

✔️ Removed the built-in w**e rack and serving hatch to make room for a new bank of drawers for haberdashery, sewing tools and accessories.

✔️ Transformed the old TV compartment into a pull-out shelf/countertop for the sewing machine — practical, convenient and neatly tucked away when not in use.

✔️ Kept the original upper glass-door cabinet, preserving the character and charm of the piece.

✔️ Thoroughly cleaned, sanded and refinished the cabinet. The base was painted with Duram NuGlo in Casa Bonita, while the crown, tops and glass doors were stripped, sanded and finished with Jax Oleum in Putty.

✔️ Fitted soft-closing bearing runners to all drawers for smooth, easy operation.

✔️ Carefully cleaned and reused the original glass-door hinges, with custom grooves made in the doors to accommodate them.

The result? A refreshed, practical sewing cabinet that retains the charm of the original solid oak piece while offering a completely new lease on life. ❤️

Planning for a kitchen renovation is daunting –where do you start and how do you know you have covered everything you need to consider when you are about to sign on the dotted line. During August we will be sharing our advice on the top things you need to give thought to before you sign off the final design and hand over your deposit.

How do you live, shop, entertain and cook? It is important to have done a thorough breakdown as to how you live within a kitchen space before you meet with a designer.

Give thought to how you shop – weekly or monthly.
How do you cook – do you enjoy cooking or live on take-out. Do you cook for two or for large family groups?
How do you entertain – small intimate dinners or large gatherings?
How do you use the kitchen space – is it somewhere just for food prep or is it a multi-use space for homework, artwork, teaching?

If you are concerned that a door or panel that has been installed in your kitchen is defective there are internationally acceptable ways of determining this. You do not get to stand right up next to the material with a torch and magnifying glass.

For a micro-imperfection to be defined as a defect, it must be detectable under the following
conditions (this applies to spots/dents as well as fibers/scratches).
o Assessment is under daylight-like lighting (5000 Kelvin)
o Viewing distance of at least 700mm from board surface
o Viewing duration: maximum 20 seconds
o Light intensity: 1000 to 2000 Lux
o Inclination angle of product: 30° to the vertical
