The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is pleased to announce the 2nd Africa Annual Conference on Credit Ratings, taking place on 5–6 October 2026 in Mauritius.

The Conference will convene policymakers, financial institutions, credit rating agencies, investors, researchers, and other key stakeholders from across Africa and beyond for a landmark continental dialogue on Africa’s credit rating landscape and its implications for investment, access to finance and sustainable economic development.

Today, the APRM convened a virtual meeting on the Framework and Guidelines for the Preparation of Annual Progress Reports, bringing together members of APRM National Governing Councils and National Secretariats.

Delivering opening remarks on behalf of APRM CEO, Chief of Staff Mr. Damien Thesee called for a shift from assessing governance to translating good governance into sustainable results. He encouraged Member States to integrate annual progress reporting into national planning and use it as a strategic governance management tool.

The session also featured presentations by the APRM Continental Secretariat on the objectives and expected outcomes of the meeting, the operational framework for annual progress reports, and its implementation at national level.

In closing, Mr. Thesee underscored the importance of consistent and rigorous annual progress reporting and announced that a similar session will be organised with Francophone countries.

At the inaugural Africa Mindset Reset Forum, the Africa Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA) was recognised as a mindset-shifting initiative and a practical expression of African agency and institutional innovation.

The APRM has concluded the second phase of its institutional consultations in South Africa for the development of the Africa Governance Report 2027 (AGR27).

Held in Pretoria on 20–21 August and hosted by the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), the consultations brought together representatives from national, provincial and local government, as well as youth fora, networks and agencies.

The consultations are focused on “Youth in Governance: From Promise to Prosperity,” the overall theme of AGR27, which examines the role of Africa’s young people in governance and development. This includes youth and human capital development, leadership in the public and private sectors, and participation in technology, artificial intelligence and e-governance.

The South African consultations form part of the wider AGR27 country consultation process, gathering institutional experiences and perspectives that will inform the Report’s findings, analysis and recommendations on youth and governance across Africa.

Africa’s financial institutions hold nearly US$4 trillion in domestic capital, yet the continent faces an annual financing gap of approximately US$280 billion.

On 5–6 October 2026, the APRM and partners will convene in Mauritius 🇲🇺 to explore how stronger African capital markets and credit ratings can help unlock and channel Africa’s capital towards financing the continent’s development.

Africa has the capital. It is time to put it to work for Africa.
