After months—or even years—of planning and construction, you might think the most anticipated image would be the stunning renders or the beautiful completion photographs.
It isn't.
The picture every client should be waiting for is the Occupation Certificate.
It may not be glamorous, but this single document confirms that the building has been approved for legal occupation. It is one of the most important milestones in any construction project and may also be required by insurers, financiers and future purchasers as evidence that the building complies with the relevant statutory requirements.
As architects, we understand the significance of this document. That's why compliance isn't something we think about at the end of a project—it's something we plan for from day one.
Obtaining an Occupation Certificate requires a coordinated effort by the entire project team. Depending on the project, this may include plumbing, electrical and glazing compliance certificates, municipal inspections during construction, approved plans, and the successful completion of all statutory requirements.
