Tip of the Day!

Don't Just Paint Over Black Mould!

If your bathroom ceiling and walls look like this, painting over the mould is not the solution. The mould will simply grow back through the new paint if the underlying problem isn't addressed.

The correct way to deal with black mould:

✅ Repair the source of the moisture (roof leak, plumbing leak, or excessive condensation).

✅ Clean the affected surfaces with a quality mould remover or a diluted bleach solution (1 part household bleach to 3–4 parts water). Allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes before scrubbing. Never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners.

✅ Rinse and allow the surfaces to dry completely.

✅ Improve ventilation by opening windows, using an extractor fan, or leaving the bathroom door open after showering.

✅ Once the area is completely dry, apply a stain-blocking primer followed by a high-quality anti-mould bathroom paint.

💡 Prevention is always cheaper than repairs. Keeping moisture under control is the best defence against mould returning.
