When there is moisture exposed to the environment, there will be evaporation. Which cools the surface it evaporates from. Therefore creating a cold spot.

Creating a thermography report isn't just about snapping a thermal image and calling it a day—there’s always a bigger purpose behind it.
Whether it’s for an internal condition monitoring program or to help a client satisfy their insurance risk and liability requirements, the stakes are real. If you’re offering thermography as a standalone service (and charging for it!), credibility is everything. Plus, if something goes wrong down the line, accountability matters.
That’s exactly where formal certification and training come into play. As an ITC Level 3 Certified Thermographer, I’ve seen firsthand how crucial standard procedures—like ISO 18436-7 for Level 1—really are.
Proper training gives you the tools to:
Follow standardized reporting procedures so your findings are clear and actionable.
Define clear boundaries between your responsibilities and your client’s.
Manage thermography as a structured program or a viable business line, rather than just an extra tool in the van.
A deeper technical understanding transforms thermography from a basic add-on into a high-value service.
