SPRING DOESN'T HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE 🌱

Spring is the perfect excuse to give your home a little lift — but creating a space you're proud of doesn't have to mean spending a fortune.

Start small.
🌱 Ask a friend or neighbour for a plant cutting.
🪴 Give an old pot a fresh coat of leftover paint.
🌼 W**d and tidy one small flower bed.
🧱 Use spare bricks or stones to create a neat garden edge.
🚪 Clean up your entrance and add one colourful plant.
🌿 Swap plants and cuttings with neighbours.

Sometimes the biggest difference comes from a few hours of effort rather than a big budget.

Start with one little corner this weekend. Then stand back and enjoy what you've created.

KNOW WHERE TO TURN IT OFF! 💧

A burst pipe doesn't make an appointment.

Neither does a leaking toilet, a broken tap, a geyser problem or the garden pipe that suddenly decides to create its own swimming pool.

When water starts flowing where it shouldn't, one of the most useful things you can know as a homeowner is where to shut it off — quickly.

Take a few minutes this week to find the water shut-off points around your home.
🔧 Check beneath kitchen and bathroom basins for isolation valves where fitted.
🚽 Know how to stop the water supply to your toilets.
🌿 Familiarise yourself with outdoor taps and any accessible isolation points.
🚿 Know where the water supply to your geyser can be isolated.
💧 Most importantly, know where your property's main water shut-off valve is located and how to close it.

Make sure the other adults in your household know too.
Because when there's water spreading across the kitchen floor at 10pm, that is not the ideal time to start looking for the stopcock!

Knowing your home is part of looking after your home.
A few minutes spent familiarising yourself with the basics today could help prevent significant water damage tomorrow.

That can mean:

🌱 Lower overall energy consumption
🔥 Hot water that retains its heat for longer

For the best results, make sure the blanket is correctly fitted and suitable for your geyser. Never cover electrical components or safety controls, and ask a qualified professional for advice if you're unsure.

A beautiful garden doesn't need a big budget—sometimes it just needs a little imagination! 🌱

Looking for a fun weekend project to tackle with the children? Before buying new garden décor, take a look at what you already have lying around.

With a splash of paint and some creativity, everyday items can be given a colourful second life:

🛞 Old tyres can be cleaned, painted and transformed into cheerful planters.
🥫 Empty tins make lovely little plant containers or colourful garden decorations. Smooth or cover any sharp edges before little hands get involved.
🪨 Rocks and stones can become ladybirds, flowers, animals or anything your young artists can imagine. Arrange them around the garden or display them on a piece of driftwood or an old tree stump.
🪴 Old plastic plant pots don't need to be thrown away. Clean them up, add some bright paint and suddenly they're completely new again.

Projects like these are inexpensive, encourage children to get creative and teach them a little about recycling and caring for their environment along the way.

Choose child-safe paints, supervise cutting or preparation, and then let their imaginations take over.

Best of all, every time you step outside, you'll see something you created together.
