As summer approaches, so too does the extreme heat! 🔥🥵
Especially for those whose roles take them to an outdoor working environment, protect yourself and your employees in the workplace by preventing heat exhaustion or heat stroke:
💧 Drink at least 600ml of WATER every hour when working in a hot environment or doing physical labour.
🤠 Wear sunscreen, a hat (that is approved for hardhats if applicable) & sunglasses when working outdoors.
🌳 Take frequent rests in the shade, remove all headgear and drink water.
🍎 Eat healthy food and sleep well. A healthy body can handle heat better.
🕚 If it is 35°C or above, avoid working at the hottest time of the day if possible (±11:00 – 13:00)
🍃 Ventilation is key. Make sure all air conditioners are fitted with maintained HEPA filtration systems, or open all doors & windows for as much natural, fresh air ventilation as possible.
👀 Pay attention to warning signs & to each other - if you don't feel good, take a break or encourage others to.
REMEMBER - Heat exhaustion & heat stroke require different treatments, so it is important to learn to tell the difference between the two🌡
