Zambia, led by FAO Representative Ms. Suze Percy Filippini, joined colleagues from FAO offices across the sub-region from 10–12 November 2025 for a working session on strengthening FAO engagement with Global Environment Facility ( ) and Green Climate Fund ( ). Participating countries included Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The sessions focused on better understanding the GEF/GCF project cycle, mapping our strengths and partnerships and identifying opportunities to mobilize resources and integrate GEF/GCF programming into ongoing FAO work.

The objective is to have more coordinated and impactful climate and environmental action across the sub-region. This is the first step towards a medium-term strategy for capacity building, partner engagement and a sub-regional multi-stakeholder dialogue scheduled for next year.

I led a workshop that brought government officers and partners together to strengthen skills in agriculture damage and loss assessment. The session focused on practical tools that help improve reporting and guide response planning. Participants worked through real examples and shared their experience from recent climate events. The strong engagement showed the commitment across institutions to improve evidence for decision making. Thank you to all teams that took part.
