Hitting rebar halfway through a slab isn't bad luck. It's skipping one step.

Cutting through the wrong bar in a beam or post-tensioned slab can weaken the structure - and on a commercial site it can stop the whole job while the engineer gets involved.

A rebar survey before drilling shows where the steel is, so the hole goes where it should the first time.
