For a kitchen the most common stone used is granite as it is strong, doesnt chip or stain like other surfaces and is easy to clean. Your common and most popular colors would be black/grey (rustenburg), pitch black (zim black) or granite with color and patterns.
The beauty about granite is it’s natural, strong and made by slow cooling and crystallisation of large crystals (quartz/feldspar) in the deep earths crust above a subduction zone. In short this means that it’s formed through the cooling and solidifying of magma (this is element from which lava is formed).
Granite is extracted from a quarry using drills and water jets to remove the block of stone. The natural patterns once cut into slabs and polished is why granite is so sought after.
