Water is fundamental to thriving communities, resilient economies and a healthy environment. This World Water Week, we reflect on the importance of protecting this vital resource and the role we all play in ensuring it is managed responsibly.

The 2026 theme, “Water for People and Progress,” highlights the need for a more just, equitable and water-secure future, with a focus on water security, climate change and inequality, and ensuring that water continues to support people, communities and sustainable development.

Practical completion of the Mabunyaneng and Khubelu bridges on 31 July 2026 marks an important milestone in the development of resilient transport infrastructure in Lesotho’s mountainous Mokhotlong district. Constructed by the Concor–Nthane Brothers Joint Venture for the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA), the bridges provide permanent access along the national A1 highway, replacing the existing low-level river crossings that will be inundated by the future Polihali Dam reservoir. Both structures stand more than 2,100 meters above sea level in steep, highly variable mountain terrain.

Women’s Month Spotlight – Meet Christelle Tshibola

Christelle’s journey as a Site Engineer demonstrates the importance of perseverance, continuous learning and confidence in a male-dominated industry. With a BSc (Honours) in Civil Engineering, she applies her technical expertise on site, overseeing structural works and coordinating multiple subcontractors to bring complex projects to life.

For Christelle, one of the most rewarding aspects of engineering is seeing the results of her work take shape on site. From coordinating teams and solving challenges, to ensuring that structural works are delivered safely and to the required standard, every stage brings a new opportunity to learn and contribute. She believes in the importance of taking up space and recognising the value women bring to the industry through their perspectives, resilience and innovation.

Women’s Month Spotlight – Maggie Weimers

Maggie’s journey at Concor is a testament to the power of continuous learning, mentorship and determination. Since joining Concor in 2022, Maggie has strengthened her technical expertise and professional confidence while pursuing a Master’s degree in Quantity Surveying.

For Maggie, Quantity Surveying is about more than numbers and drawings, it’s about turning ideas into reality and delivering projects that create a lasting impact on communities.

As a young woman in construction, Maggie encourages others to embrace their potential and challenge the stereotypes that may stand in their way. “Believe in your abilities and never let stereotypes define your potential. Mandela Month may be coming to an end, but our commitment to making a difference doesn't stop here.

Today, teams from our Head Office and Buildings division swapped spreadsheets for paintbrushes and meetings for community impact. We're at , giving back in true Mandela Day spirit - painting, cleaning and refreshing key areas around the village. A special shoutout to the team who got a head start earlier this week, refurbishing the brickwork at the amphitheater and making sure everything was ready before we arrived. Madiba believed it takes just 67 minutes to make a difference - Concor is proud to give so much more.

A sincere thank you to our valued subcontractor partners – Vilanculos Carpentry & Joinery, Tekcent Glass & Aluminium, Iconic Signage, and Victor Sealing & Waterproofing – for their generous donations and support. Concor is committed to building infrastructure that balances project delivery with environmental stewardship, helping create a more sustainable future for generations to come.

At the Karreebosch Wind Energy Facility, environmental conservation began long before construction. A botanical Search and Rescue programme was carried out to protect indigenous plant species found within the project footprint.

Among the species carefully protected and relocated were the endangered Conophytum minimum and Veltheimia capensis both discovered across the Western and Northern Cape. The project team carefully relocated nearly 2,000 plant specimens to suitable nearby habitats, ensuring valuable biodiversity was preserved while construction progressed. This is a reminder that responsible infrastructure is not only about what we build, it is also about what we protect along the way.

This World Nature Conservation Day we are reminded that responsible infrastructure development is not only measured by what we build, but also by what we protect along the way.

Creating Safer, Smarter Transport Networks

Progress continues on the R101 Section 8 Improvement project between Bela-Bela and Modimolle, with the 26.8 km upgrade.

Designed to improve road safety, increase traffic capacity and create a more efficient transport route, this project will enhance a key transport corridor for motorists, businesses and surrounding communities. The scope of work includes the reconstruction of the existing roadway to increase capacity and improve safety, the demolition and replacement of bridges and major culverts and the construction of walkways and street lighting to create a safer environment for both motorists and pedestrians.

With every phase completed, we move closer to delivering infrastructure that enhances mobility, strengthens transport networks and improves everyday journeys.
