A renovation can be exciting for you, but it can be confusing and stressful for your pets.
There are new people around, strange noises, deliveries coming and going, and parts of the house that suddenly look very different.
A few simple precautions can make things easier:
• Watch the gates. Construction teams and deliveries mean gates and doors may be open more often than usual. Make sure your pets can't escape.
• Plan for deliveries. Keep pets away from areas where materials are being delivered or moved.
• Think about loud machinery. Drills, grinders and other equipment can be frightening, particularly for dogs. Give them a quiet space away from the work where possible.
• Keep anxious dogs comfortable. If your dog is particularly nervous, consider having them stay with family, a friend or at a familiar boarding facility during the noisiest stages.
Your pets don't need to be part of the renovation team. A little planning can help keep them safe, calm and out of harm's way while your home is being transformed.
