What helps a mining site run safely and consistently?

Often, it comes down to everyday practices:

• Quality checks that confirm work meets the required specifications.
• Compliance requirements included in planning and daily procedures.
• Clear communication between teams and contractors.
• Environmental controls that form part of routine operations.
• Regular reviews to identify where improvements are needed.

Each plays a role in helping teams plan, carry out and review their work.

Best practice is something maintained every day through consistent care and attention.

What everyday practice would you add to the list?

Engineered to the millisecond.

Every blast is planned, timed and sequenced down to the last detail, and it takes a whole team to get it right. Tag someone who works in mining or construction, or share this with your crew.

Myth: Flyrock only happens when a blast design fails.

Reality: Flyrock risk is a consideration in every blast, and several factors can influence it.

• Stemming helps contain explosive gases inside the blast hole.
• Burden — the distance between a blast hole and the free face — affects how the rock contains and responds to the explosive energy.
• Geological features such as voids, weak seams and old workings can influence how that energy moves through the rock.

That’s why geological assessment, stemming checks and exclusion zones are important parts of blast planning and ex*****on.

Managing flyrock risk requires informed design, careful ex*****on and appropriate safety measures.

Which would you like us to unpack next: stemming, burden or geology?

How is dust managed during drilling and blasting?

Dust can be generated at several stages of surface mining, including drilling, blasting and vehicle movement on haul roads. How it spreads depends on factors such as ground conditions, moisture and wind.

Dust management brings several measures together:

• Water suppression helps reduce dust on haul roads and in suitable work areas.
• Weather monitoring helps inform blast planning by considering wind speed and direction.
• Dust monitoring provides measurements to assess conditions and guide management decisions.
• Adjusting controls during dry or windy conditions helps sites respond to changing circumstances.

A visible dust cloud alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Its size or appearance cannot establish dust concentrations or whether applicable limits have been met — that requires monitoring and assessment.

Understanding these factors helps explain why dust management is an ongoing part of mining operations.

Which topic would you like us to explain next: water suppression, weather monitoring or dust measurement?

Same explosive load, two very different fragmentation results — why?

Usually it's the timing, not the explosive. Delay intervals control how each row of holes interacts with the rock around it. Too tight, and holes interfere with each other. Too loose, and you lose the relief needed for a clean break.

Powder factor sets the energy available. Sequencing decides how it's used.

Need equipment moved this week? We've got the truck and driver ready.

Our lowbed units are available now for contractors across construction, mining, and earthmoving projects. No need to source a driver separately — every rental comes fully crewed, so you can focus on the job, not the logistics.

Get a quote today and lock in your transport before your project timeline tightens up.
