Recently, a small group from our team, recognised for their excellent root cause analysis work during a recent quality investigation, had the opportunity to spend the morning with .
They came back with more than just a great experience; they came back with a fresh perspective on what true process discipline looks like.
We toured BAC’s Aviation Maintenance Organisation (AMO), hosted by Blessing Ncube and Tatenda Chakarisa. The AMO is responsible for keeping aircraft airworthy through scheduled inspections, documented maintenance programmes and strict compliance protocols.
What stood out was the level of discipline throughout the operation. In aviation, a missed step isn’t simply an inconvenience, it can become a safety risk. Every check, procedure and sign-off matters. Seeing that level of control in practice was a genuine eye-opener for our team.
Then pilot Greg Strydom took the team up in a Bell 206 JetRanger. The flight was a fitting demonstration of everything we had just seen: preparation, pre-flight checks, systems and procedures, all followed without shortcuts.
There’s plenty for our team to take back to the floor.
If an industry where safety depends on process can maintain that level of discipline, there’s no reason we can’t challenge ourselves to hold our own processes to an even higher standard.
