Zuckerman Sachs Architects

Zuckerman Sachs Architects Zuckerman Sachs Architects is a Cape Town-based architectural practice. We value quality over quantity, and work with this specific goal in mind.

Zuckerman Sachs Architects was founded in 2001 by Cape-based architects Mark Zuckerman and Neal Sachs. Together we have over 35 years of experience in the architectural profession, and have built a reputation as a client-focused practice which provides a bespoke service, with real dedication and enthusiasm for our craft. Our love of architecture stems from a passion for exploring the possibilities

of light, space, proportion and materiality. We relish the opportunity to turn problems into opportunities, and through many years of experience we have found that the most challenging of projects can often result in the most notable and beautiful buildings. Our method of practice is grounded in having close working relationships with our clients, allowing us to faithfully translate all the parameters of the project (brief, site, budget and timeframe) into the best possible architectural solution for each specific project. With this goal in mind, we have structured our practice to ensure that both principal architects are accessible and highly involved in each project from inception through to completion, ensuring an efficient and thorough level of service, and a highly considered, always unique end product. We accept a limited number of commissions each year, to ensure individual attention to each project. A significant portion of our business is from repeat clients. For us, this is an indication that we are doing what we set out to do: making clients happy. We rely not only on our extensive design and technical experience, but also on an intuitive sense of what will work in a specific situation. When the spatial qualities of a building transcend what can be measured or quantified, building becomes architecture. This is what we strive for.

Completed project on the slopes of Signal Hill, Cape Town. Set on an extra-wide sea-facing site, each space is oriented outward, establishing a continuous dialogue with the ocean. Arrival is shaped by a double-volume stair, framing a central vista on entry. A coffered slab spans the main living areas, creating generous open space, while recessed light troughs simulate floating ceilings.
